Seth Weaver has rapidly established a reputation as one of the most exciting new jazz names on the NYC jazz scene. Whether though his brilliant improvised trombone solos, rich baritone vocals, original compositions, or his dedicated teaching, his passion for music and unique talent shines through. He is a rising star as a soloist and clinician, dynamic bandleader, and in demand side man. He is a Rath trombone and Outside in Music sponsored artist.
Weaver has performed at most major New York City venues including, but not limited to, Dizzy’s, Carnegie Hall, Zinc Bar, Birdland, Webster Hall, The Django, Rockwood Music Hall, The Blue Note, Groove, Shapeshifter Lab, (Le) Poisson Rouge, The Knitting Factory, Club Bonafide, The Iridium, Swing 46, Tavern on the Green, American Beauty, St. Peter's Church, and The Triad. He has shared the stage with Ben Folds, Alfredo “Chocolate” Armenteros, Larry Harlow, Bucky Pizzarelli, Michael Dease, Ulysses Owens Jr., Adam Neely, Luis Bonilla, Phil Wilson, and many others. He was a featured as a guest artist with the New London Big Band and has appeared on TV for “An American Big Band Christmas,” broadcast nationally for 6 straight years, aired on hundreds of stations and reached 90% of Americans. Anchor stations have included WCBS in NY and KABC in LA.
As a bandleader, Seth’s seventeen-piece swing orchestra is comprised of some of the most exciting young musicians in the New York jazz scene. He has organized over 100 performances, including a 4 year residency at The Zinc Bar. The Seth Weaver Big Band released the highly anticipated inaugural album, "Truth," in 2020 with Outside in Music. The album has been described as “...Soulful Hard Bop Big Band…” by Grady Harp, Amazon’s Top 50 Reviewer and “…[Seth] sings in a relaxed and hip manner and plays his trombone in a similarly swinging vein as he leads his 17 piece jazz orchestra…” by George W. Harris, Jazz Week. He has also released 3 hit singles "On A Clear Day," "Frost," and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
Seth is a sought after composer and arranger and his music has been performed all over the world. He has arranged music for Svetlana and the Delancey Five Featuring Wycliffe Gordan, The Bobby Sanabria’s Multiverse Big Band, JM Jazz World International Youth Jazz Orchestra’s 2015 and 2019 European Tours and many others. His brilliant composition “Frost” debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2018, as did his composition “The Hudson,” in 2016. He composed the original score for the off-Broadway play, “For What It’s Worth” that debuted at the Saint Mark's Theater and was played at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park, the NYSummerfest Theater Co., and TNC's 8th Annual Dream Up Festival. He also transcribed and analyzed Michael Dease’s album, “Coming Home," which is available through Warwick Music Publications .
Weaver’s multifaceted musicianship has made him a coveted educator. Seth has taught masterclasses at New York Univserity, the Nashville Jazz Workskop the Tennessee Summer Music Festival, Manhattan School of Music, Millersville University, and many others. He began his private studio in 2010 and he is on the faculty at the Larchmont Music Academy. He teaches trombone, voice, piano, and composition/arranging. His students have won numerous local and national competitions, been excepted in the some of the nation’s top music schools, and have performed at Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall.
Seth earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 2013, and was awarded a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from the Manhattan School of Music in 2015.
Originally from Tennessee, Seth’s talent has been recognized throughout his career and he has received numerous awards. While in high school, he played and sang with the Blair School of Music Jazz Band, and another local big band. While an undergraduate, he won the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Vocal jazz soloist. He went on to win the Downbeat Student Outstanding Performance Award as a Vocal Soloist in the graduate category in 2014. He was the winner of the Texas State Jazz Trombone Competition and was one of three finalists in the International Trombone Association’s Carl Fontana Jazz Competition two years in a row. He won the American Trombone Workshop’s National Jazz Competition in 2017.
When not playing music, teaching or composing, Seth is a dedicated dog dad, amateur chef, and avid outdoorsman.
